100 Days of Woodcuts

art

A few years ago I stumbled upon The 100 Day Project - an online art project all about committing to 100 days of creative exploration.

I was yearning for something like this. Something that would reignite my passion for art. But come Spring when it launched, I was always deep in client work - building brands and websites.

Looking back at my personal Instagram account, I made it to day four in 2016. Needless to say I wasn't good about carving out time for myself (no pun intended!)

Last month I got an email reminder that the annual project was starting up soon. I told myself this was the year. This year I'm going to do it. I even had the idea of doing small woodcuts for the project. I had scrap MDF in my garage from my kitchen remodel a few years ago, and it's a perfect "wood" for carving.

So here I am, two weeks in, and I am loving the process. The blocks are small, 3”x3", and they take about 15-30 minutes to carve. I’ve also been playing with texture from the ink since I have spare water-based ink that needs to be used up. I’m sharing my daily carvings in my stories on Instagram, so make sure we’re friends there, ok?
