How to Frame Deckle Edge Artwork

With my latest launch of Geometric Art Prints, I thought it would be a great time to talk about deckle edge (or rough edge) artwork. Personally, I’m a huge fan of hand torn paper. Especially with printmaking, it can give an organic touch to an otherwise very bold piece of art.

So I’m going to break down a few framing options for this very special style of art, but really these tips are great for any art you own.

Framed Geometric Woodblock Art Prints Set of 3

Option 1: Matted

First we have the very traditional method of matting art to get those crisp clean edges around the piece. Of course this hides the beautiful edge, only you will know what’s underneath.

Option 2: Floating

Secondly, we have the floating frame. This is where the art sits on top of a matte or foam board to show off the whole piece of work.

You can also float it between two pieces of glass for that see through look. Be sure you use acid free tape when mounting your art work.

Option 3: Hanger Frame

The final option I give you is the hanger frame option. This is great for odd size art as well, because you can purchase a size that fits the width of your art, and then the height options are endless. There are lots of colour options, from wood to metal.

One caveat to this style of framing is that your art is not protected from dust and sunlight. So you may see more fading and degradation to your artwork over time.

So there you go, my top framing choices for your deckle edge art. I would love to see your art framed, tag me on Instagram @rorylinn
