New Orleans Airbnb Art Installation
I was so excited to be invited to hang my art in a new local New Orleans Airbnb last weekend. Earlier this year, my friend (and super host/person) reached out to me about a new Airbnb she’s getting together. She thought my art would be perfect in the space. It’s a little New Orleans funky 1800’s house in the Bywater neighborhood with giant 15’ ceilings, pristine plaster walls with the original picture rail moulding.
I had never hung from a picture rail before. If you’ve never heard of a picture rail, it’s a thin molding with a small lip on the top to catch a hook. It’s usually installed a couple feet from the ceiling and the hook holds a wire attached to the picture below. It's the best way to hang things on the wall without putting a bunch of holes in your plaster, but it is also tricky to get frames lined up if you’re trying to match height.
I wasn’t sure how long it would take to hang my prints, I brought quite a few pieces to make sure we had enough to fill the space:
I thought four hours would be enough to hang all 13 pieces, but it ended up taking 5 1/2 hours! The Geometric prints are where most of my time went, like I said, getting those lined up were challenging. But we ended up just going with the funky feel, and I think it all worked!
And of course there were flowers, so you know I got lots of photos of those for future drawing sessions. Spring is definitely in the air here in NOLA, and everything is blooming! I’ve never seen amaryllis outside of a pot before, and these red beauties were stealing the spotlight.
I’m looking forward to future installs. If you’re in NOLA and would like your art installed, let me know and we can set something up!
